Cathedra

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

The throne or chair of a bishop in his cathedral church which he occupies during solemn ceremonies. In Latin the word is sometimes applied to denote an episcopal see. An ex-cathedra decision is an infallible pronouncement of the pope signifying that he speaks officially as Head of the Church.
