Ears of Grain

Holman Bible Dictionary

The fruit-bearing spike of a cereal such as maize which included both seed and protective structures. American corn was unknown in the Ancient Near East. It is more proper to speak of the common grains of that area, namely, wheat and barley, as having heads. The law permitted passersby to hand-pick heads of grain from a neighbor's field (Deuteronomy 23:25 ). See Agriculture .
