Highest

Holman Bible Dictionary

A KJV designation for God (Luke 1:32 ,Luke 1:32,1:35 ,Luke 1:35,1:76; Luke 6:35 ). Modern translations prefer “Most High” (NAS, NIV, NRSV) or “Most High God” (TEV). In the Old Testament, Most High often occurs as a designation for the God of Israel when Gentiles are in view (Genesis 14:18-22; Numbers 24:16; and frequently in Daniel). In the intertestamental period, the Highest or Most High became the most common designation for the Jewish God, occurring about 120 times in the Apocrypha.
