Hip
Holman Bible Dictionary
The part of the body where the thigh and torso connect. Jacob's hip came out of socket when he wrestled with God at the Jabbok (Genesis 32:25 ). The Israelites commemorated this encounter by not eating the thigh muscle on the hip socket (Genesis 32:32 ). To strike an enemy “hip and thigh” (Judges 15:8 ) is to attack him fiercely (TEV) or viciously (NIV). Belshazzar's fear at the handwriting on the wall (Daniel 5:6 NAS) was evidenced by his hip joint going slack.
