Holman Bible Dictionary
(pee' ahr) Name perhaps meaning, “opening.” 1. Mountain in Moab opposite the wilderness of Judah. Balak brought Balaam there to curse the camp of the Israelites which was visible from the site (Numbers 23:28; Numbers 24:2 ). 2 . Abbreviated form of Baal-Peor (lord of Peor), a god whom the Israelites were led to worship (Numbers 25:18; Numbers 31:16; Joshua 22:17 ).
