Originally a citizen of the town of Sodom, one of the cities of the plain near the Dead Sea (Genesis 13:12 ). The term came to mean a male who has sexual relations with another male. The wickedness of Sodom became proverbial (see Genesis 19:1-11 ). See Homosexuality; Sex.
