People's Dictionary of the Bible

Month. Genesis 8:4. The ancient Hebrews called the months by their numbers; as first month, second month, third month, etc., and also had a name for each month. They likewise had a civil and a sacred year. The sacred year was used in computing their festivals, and chiefly by sacred writers. The civil year was used in reckoning their jubilee, the reign of kings, and birth of children. The length of the month depended on the changes of the moon. The names of the Hebrew months follow:
