Vine's Expository Dictionary of NT Words
denotes "a ravine or valley," sometimes figurative of "a condition of lonliness and danger" (cp. Psalm 23:4 ); the word occurs in Luke 3:5 (from the Sept. of Isaiah 40:4 ).
