a Congregational minister, was born at Bedford, N. H., May 14, 1799. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1825 with the highest honors; was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church in Amherst,, N. H., March 4, 1829; was installed in Park Street Church, Boston, in 1837; and became pastor of the Church in Rutland, Vt., March 29, 1849. On account of impaired health he resigned this pastorate in 1863, but held the nominal relation of pastor for several years afterwards. He died in Rutland, April 8, 1869. During his three pastorates, extending over thirty-four years, he received eight hundred and ninety members into the churches. His character and work won the esteem of all who knew him. See Cong.
