a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church South, was born near Louisburg, Franklin Co., N.C., in 1809. He was led to Christ in early life; obtained a good English education, and in 1829 entered the Virginia Conference. On the formation of the North Carolina Conference, in, 1837, he became one of its members, and in it for four consecutive years labored with all his energy. In 1858 he returned to-the Virginia Conference as a superannuate, which relation he sustained to the close of his life, in 1873.
