Johanan ben Isaac of Holleschau
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
Rabbi of the German community of London at the beginning of the eighteenth century. He edited "Teshubot ha-Geonim," responsa of contemporary rabbis on the pronunciation of the divine names, with additions of his own (Amsterdam, 1707), and wrote "Ma'aseh Rab," in which he sharply criticized the action of a certain London rabbi in regard to a divorce and an excommunication (published together with the preceding work). See Hambro' Synagogue.
