Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Heb., Anan', עָנָן, cloud; Sept. ᾿Ηνάν v. r. ᾿Ηνάμ, one of the chief Israelites that sealed the sacred covenant on the return from Babylon (Nehemiah 10:26), B.C. cir. 410.

In the apocryphal list of the "temple-servants," whose descendants returned from the captivity, the same name (Ἀνάν ) occurs (1 Esdras 5:30) in place of the HANAN (See HANAN) (q.v.) of the genuine text (Ezra 2:46).
