a Baptist minister, was born in Killingworth, Connecticut, May 3, 1808. When he was eight years old his parents removed to Marietta, Ohio. At the age of seventeen he united with the Church, and for a time studied at South Reading, now Wakefield, and in Newton Theological Institution. He was ordained at Amesbury, Massachusetts, September 30, 1832; became a missionary in the West; subsequently was pastor at Akron, McConnelsville, Garrettsville, and for short periods at other points in Ohio. In August, 1853, he took up his residence in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and for many years devoted himself to the service of feeble churches in the neighborhood in which he lived.
