(Heb. Lotan', לוֹטָן, coverer; Sept. Λωτάν ), the first-named of the sons of Seir, the Horite, and a petty prince of Idumaea prior to the supremacy of the Esauites (Genesis 36:20; Genesis 36:29; 1 Chronicles 1:38). His sons are mentioned as being Hori and Hemam or Honam, and his sister as being named Timna (Genesis 36:22; 1 Chronicles 1:39), by which latter he was allied to Esau's oldest son (Genesis 36:12).
