";slacken,"; ";let down"; (Mar. 2:4, al.) : cf. P Lond 131*.12 (A.D. 78) (= I. p. 189) persons περὶ τὸ ὄργανον χαλῶντ (ες) τὰς τριχ (ίας), and the compd. ἐπιχαλάω in P Ryl II. 81.11 (c. A.D. 104) ἵν᾽ ὅσου ἐὰν χρείαν ἔχωσι ὑδάτους (= -ος) ἑαυ [τοῖς ἐ ]πιχαλῶσι, ";that they may draw off for themselves as much water as they need"; (Edd.). The subst. χάλασμα occurs in Preisigke 428.7 (B.C. 99), al. In MGr χαλάω = ";break to pieces"; and χάλασμα = ";ruin.";
