Verse 1

the LORD = Jehovah. App-4 .

ark. First used of Joseph's coffin (Genesis 50:26 ); used of money-box (2 Kings 12:9 ). Not the ark of the covenant made later, but a temporary box.

Verse 2

brakest = breakedst in pieces, or smashed.

Verse 4

commandments = words. Compare Exodus 34:4 , Exodus 34:28 .

spake. See note on Deuteronomy 2:1 .

unto. Some codices, with Samaritan Pentateuch, Targum of Onkelos, and The Targum of Jonathan ben Uzziel read "with".

assembly. Hebrew. kahal, convocation of called-out people.

Verse 5

as = according as.

Verse 6

children = sons.

Beeroth, &c. = the wells of the sons of Jaakan. Compare Numbers 20:22-29 ; Numbers 33:31-38 .

Verse 8

separated. Compare Numbers 3:5-12 .
