Verse 1

Verse 2

children. Hebrew sons.

seven days. See note on Leviticus 12:5 .

according to the days. Compare Leviticus 15:19 .

Verse 3

circumcised. See note on "leprosy", Leviticus 13:2 .

Verse 4

three and thirty. Half the period of maid child. See Leviticus 12:5 (7 + 33 = 40. See App-10 ).

hallowed. Hebrew. kadesh. See note on Exodus 3:5 .

Verse 5

purifying = purification, i.e. pure blood as distinct from the other.

threescore and six days. Double that after a man child. See Leviticus 12:4 (14 + 66 = 80). This ordinance was not on account of any disparity between the sexes, but was in order to regulate them, so that the birth-rate of females might not be in too great excess, as it otherwise would have been, and is, where this ordinance is not known or observed.

Verse 6

she shall bring. As Mary did. Luke 2:22-24 .

door = entrance.

tabernacle = tent. Hebrew. 'ohel . App-40 .

Verse 7

offer it = bring it near. Hebrew. karab. App-43 .

make. Samaritan Pentateuch, Septuagint, and Syriac read, "and the priest shall make", as in Leviticus 12:8 .

make an atonement. See note on Exodus 29:33 .

issue = fount [discharge].

Verse 8

two turtles. See Luke 2:22 , Luke 2:24 , and compare 2 Corinthians 8:9 .
