Verses 1-7

Psalms 11:0

Psalms 11:6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

Psalms 11:6 “he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone” - Comments - Fire and brimstone are associated with judgment. One illustration of this is the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24). Another example is the destruction of the Canaanites during Joshua's conquest of the Promised Land (Joshua 10:11).

Genesis 19:24, “Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;”

Joshua 10:11, “And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.”

Psalms 11:6 “this shall be the portion of their cup” - Comments - The cup represents difficult experiences that one must face. See:

Luke 22:42, “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”

John 18:11, “Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?”

Revelation 14:10, “The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:”

Revelation 16:19, “And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.”

Psalms 11:7 For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
