Verses 1-9

Psalms 149:0

Theme - Psalms 149:1-4 tell God's people to praise Him. Psalms 149:5-9 tell the results of praising the Lord. The judgment of God is released through the praises of His people. There are a number of examples of this in the Old Testament.

In the march thru the wilderness for forty years, God appointed the tribe of Judah, the tribe of praise, to lead the other tribes through the wilderness.

Numbers 10:14, “In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah according to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.”

Joshua led the children of Israel in a march around Jericho, with the trumpets leading the army.

Joshua 6:6, “And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.”

Jehoshaphat led his people into battle by appointing singers to lead the army.

2 Chronicles 20:20-21, “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.”

Psalms 149:1 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.”

Psalms 149:6-9 The Power God Gives His Children Psalms 149:6-9 declares the power that God has given to His children.

Numbers 25:16-18, “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Vex the Midianites, and smite them: For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.”

Psalms 149:8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

Joshua 10:23-24, “And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.”
