SOLOMON’S SACRIFICE AND WISE CHOICE AT GIBEON, 2 Chronicles 1:1-12.
Our historian introduces his history of Solomon with art account of his sacrifice at Gibeon and his wise choice, 2 Chronicles 1:1-12. A comparison of this narrative with that of 1 Kings 3:4-15 will show a general agreement; but the chronicler is somewhat fuller in details. Here we are told that a great congregation, composed of all the officers and chief fathers of Israel, assembled with Solomon at Gibeon, and that the tabernacle, and the brazen altar made by Bezaleel, (comp. Exodus 31:2-5; Exodus 38:1-7,) were there, while the ark was at Jerusalem.
SOLOMON’S RICHES, 2 Chronicles 1:13-17.
Comp. 1 Kings 10:26-29 notes. The chronicler shows less care than the writer of Kings to detail the riches and power of Solomon. He has comparatively little to say of his secular and political life, and having noted these few things as to his wealth in chariots and horses, and gold and silver, he passes on to describe the building of the temple.
