This chapter describes the overthrow of Athaliah, and the elevation of Joash to the throne. The writer gives more prominence to the part the Levites took on the occasion, and describes the arrangements of the guard somewhat differently from what we find it in the Book of Kings; but there is no real disagreement between the two accounts, and in all essential respects they are identical. See the notes on 2 Kings 11:4-21.
