Parson

The American Church Dictionary and Cyclopedia

The old name used in England for the rector or incumbent of a parish. Parson and person are the same word, being derived from the Latin Persona. The Parson is so called, as Blackstone tells us, "because by his person the Church which is an invisible body, is represented."
