Aloe

Holman Bible Dictionary

A large tree grown in India and China, producing resin and oil used in making perfumes. Balaam used the beauty of the aloe tree to describe the beauty of Israel's camp as he blessed them (Numbers 24:6 ). The aloe perfume gave aroma to the king's garment as he was married (Psalm 45:8 ). Aloe also perfumed the harlot's bed (Proverbs 7:17 ). The beloved's garden includes aloe (Song of Song of Solomon 4:14 ). Nicodemus brought aloe with myrrh to perfume Jesus' body for burial (John 19:39 ).
