Arcturus

Holman Bible Dictionary

(ehrc tyoo' ruhss) A constellation of stars God created (Job 9:9; Job 38:32 ) of which exact identification was not clear to the earliest Bible translators and continues to be debated. Modern translations generally use “Bear” (NAS, NIV, NRSV). TEV uses “the Dipper.” Some scholars prefer, “the lion.” Whatever the identification, the star points to the sovereign greatness of God beyond human understanding.
