Holman Bible Dictionary
(ass' ssuhr) Personal name meaning, “prisoner.” 1. A son of Korah (Exodus 6:24 ), the leader of the rebellion against Moses (Numbers 16:1-35 ). 2 . Great grandson of 1 above (1 Chronicles 6:23 ) or grandson of 1 above with Elkanah and Ebiasaph being brothers. Compare 1 Chronicles 6:37 . 3 . A son of King Jeconiah (or Jehoiachin) in KJV of 1 Chronicles 3:17 , but this should probably be interpreted as a common noun, “captive,” referring to Jehoiachin (NIV, NAS, NRSV).
