Awe
Holman Bible Dictionary
appears in different passages in different English translations as the translation of different Hebrew and Greek words. Of ten occurrences in the NAS, it translates eight distinct Hebrew and Greek words. It appears only three times in KJV translating three different Hebrew words. NIV uses “awe” sixteen times, repeating only six of the NAS usages. The term refers to an emotion combining honor, fear, and respect before someone of superior office or actions. It most appropriately applies to God.
