Baasha
Holman Bible Dictionary
(bay' uhsshuh) The king of Israel who was at war against Asa, king of Judah (1 Kings 15:16 ). Baasha gained the throne of Israel by violence. He conspired against and killed his immediate predecessor Nadab, the son of Jeroboam I (1 Kings 15:27 ). Furthermore, he exterminated the entire line of Jeroboam (1 Kings 15:29 ). Baasha reigned over Israel for twenty-four years (908-886 B.C.). His capital was at Tirzah. He died, apparently from natural causes, and was succeeded by his son Elah. See Israel; Chronology; Tirzah .
