Holman Bible Dictionary
(bee' bay i) Babylonian personal name meaning, “child.” 1. Original ancestor of clan of whom 623 (Nehemiah 7:16,628 ) returned with Zerubbabel from Exile in Babylon about 537 B.C. (Ezra 2:11 ). His son, or at least a member of the clan, led 28 men from Babylon to Jerusalem with Ezra (Ezra 8:11 ). Members of the clan had married foreign wives (Ezra 10:28 ). 2 . Signer of Nehemiah's covenant to obey God's law (Nehemiah 10:15 ).
