Bernice

Holman Bible Dictionary

(buhr ni' cih; gift ) The companion of Herod Agrippa II (Acts 25:13 ). She was the daughter of Herod Agrippa I, born probably about A.D. 28. Prior to her appearance in Acts, she had been married first to a person named Marcus, then to her own uncle Herod. Two sons were born as a result of the latter union before Bernice was widowed in A.D. 48. In the following years, an incestuous relationship is suggested between Agrippa II and her. Later she was married again, to Polemo, the king of Cilicia. According to the Roman historian Tacitus, she was also the mistress of the Roman emperor Titus. See Herod .
