Holman Bible Dictionary
(bihg' buh i) Persian name meaning, “god” or “fortune.” 1. Leader with Zerubbabel of exiles who returned from Babylon about 537 B.C. (Ezra 2:2 ). Either he or another person of same name was original clan ancestor of 2,056 people who returned (Ezra 2:14 ). When Ezra returned about 458 B.C., 72 members of the clan returned (Ezra 8:14 ). 2 . One who sealed Nehemiah's covenant to obey God's law (Nehemiah 10:16 ).
