Holman Bible Dictionary

(bihth' ih ah) Personal name meaning, “daughter of Yahweh” or Egyptian common noun meaning, “queen.” Daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh whom Mered, a descendant of tribe of Judah, married (1 Chronicles 4:17 NAS, RSV; 1 Chronicles 4:18 KJV; NIV). The verse stands in 1 Chronicles 4:18 in Hebrew but relates to the content of 1 Chronicles 4:17 . Bithiah was the mother of Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah. Throughout its history, Israel incorporated foreigners into its tribes.
