Chancellor
Holman Bible Dictionary
Title of a royal official of the Persian government living in Samaria and helping administer the Persian province after Persia gained control of Palestine. English translations vary in the way they render the title, but it apparently refers to political administration rather than to military command and represents a high official but not the highest provincial office, that of governor.
