Crocus
Holman Bible Dictionary
A plant with abundant blossoms. Several species of crocus grow in Palestine. The flower mentioned in the Bible (Song of Song of Solomon 2:1; Isaiah 35:1 ) has been identified as either the narcissus (N. tazetta), the meadow saffron (genus Calchicum), or the asphodel (asphodelos). The Hebrew word is sometimes translated “rose” (see KJV in Song of Song of Solomon 2:1; Isaiah 35:1 and NRSV, REB, NAS, NIV Song of Song of Solomon 2:1 ).
