Holman Bible Dictionary
(di' veess) The name sometimes given to the rich man of whom Jesus spoke in Luke 16:19-31 . Dives actually is the Latin word for “rich” used in Luke 16:19 in the Vulgate translation. The idea that this was the name of the man emerged in medieval times. See Lazarus .
