Hadrach

Holman Bible Dictionary

(hay' drach) City-state name of uncertain meaning. Zechariah 9:1 claims this Syrian city-state will become a part of God's territory, though the precise meaning of the verse is difficult to interpret. Assyrian inscriptions frequently mention Hatarikka or Hzrk as an opponent Tiglath-pileser III finally conquered and made part of his empire in 738 B.C. It was apparently the large mound tell Afis, 28 miles southwest of Aleppo, and served as capital of Luhuti, which was an ally of Hamath from 854 to 773.
