Hobah

Holman Bible Dictionary

(hoh' buh) Place name probably meaning “guilt” in Hebrew but “land of reeds” in Akkadian. Town in Syria to which Abraham pursued the coalition of eastern kings, who kidnapped Lot (Genesis 14:15 ). Attempts to identify Hobah with Apum or Upe in the Amarna letters from Egypt have recently been questioned. The town or region must lie somewhere north of Damascus, but its precise location is not known. It symbolizes Abraham's ability to drive his enemies completely out of the land of promise.
