Ironsmith
Holman Bible Dictionary
One who works with iron, either one who smelts ore or one who works cast pieces. Bazillai (2 Samuel 17:27-29; 2 Samuel 19:31-39 ), whose name means “man of iron,” perhaps served as David's ironsmith. Solomon appealed to Hiram, the king of Tyre, for a skilled ironsmith (2 Chronicles 2:7 ). Ironsmiths were among those assisting with Jehoiada's Temple renovation (2 Chronicles 24:12 ). The importance of smiths is highlighted by their inclusion in the classes singled out for deportation at the destruction of Jerusalem (2 Kings 24:14 ). Isaiah 44:12; Isaiah 54:16 provide concise accounts of the ironsmith's work. See Occupations; Iron .
