Jachin and Boaz
Holman Bible Dictionary
(jay' kihn uhnd boh' az) Proper names meaning, “he establishes” and “agile.” In 1 Kings 7:21 , the names of two bronze pillars that stood on either side of the entrance to Solomon's Temple. They may have been 27 feet high and 6 feet in diameter with a 10 foot capital on top. Perhaps each word was the beginning of an inscription that was engraved on the respective pillars. Analogous pillars have been found in front of temples at Khorsabad, Tyre, Paphos, and other places. Their function appears to have been primarily ornamental, though some have suggested they may have been giant incense stands. It is possible that they took on some symbolic religious significance with the passage of time. See Temple.
