(jih roh' ham) Personal name meaning, “he found mercy.” 1. Father of Elkanah and grandfather of Samuel (1 Samuel 1:1; compare 1Chronicles 6:27,1 Chronicles 6:34 ). 2 . Priest after the Exile (Nehemiah 11:12 ). 3 . Member of tribe of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 8:27 , if proper reading is not Jeremoth as in 1 Chronicles 8:14; see Jeremoth). 4. Father of one of first men to return to Jerusalem after Babylonian Exile (1 Chronicles 9:8 ). 5 . Priest whose son was one of first to return to Jerusalem from Babylonian Exile (1 Chronicles 9:12 ). 6 . Father of two of David's military leaders from Saul's tribe of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 12:7 ). 7 . Father of leader of tribe of Dan under David (1 Chronicles 27:22 ). 8 . Father of captain who helped Jehoiada, the high priest, overthrow Queen Athaliah and install Joash as king about 835 B.C. (2 Chronicles 23:1 ).
