Kerioth

Holman Bible Dictionary

(kee' rih ahth) Place name meaning, “cities.” A fortified city of Moab (Jeremiah 48:24 ,Jeremiah 48:24,48:41; Amos 2:2 , KJV has Kirioth). Kerioth may be identical to Ar, the ancient capital of Moab, since Kerioth was treated as the capital of Moab by Amos (Amos 2:2 ). Judas, the disciple of Jesus, may have been from Kerioth. Many scholars take the designation “Iscariot” to be derived from the Hebrew meaning, “man of Kerioth.” See Iscariot .
