Lapwing

Holman Bible Dictionary

(Vuhnelluss vuhnelluss) A shore bird with a short bill and crest of feathers on its head. The lapwing is known for its irregular flapping flight and shrill cry. The KJV included the lapwing among the unclean birds (Leviticus 11:19; Deuteronomy 14:18 ). Modern translations generally identify the Hebrew term with the hoopoe.
