Lintel
Holman Bible Dictionary
A wooden crossbeam over a doorway. The lintel is most prominent in the celebration of the Passover. The people of Israel were to sprinkle the blood of the sacrificial lamb on the lintel and the doorposts as a sign to the death angel. Every household which had blood on the lintel would be spared the death of the firstborn (Exodus 12:22-23 ).
