Lod
Holman Bible Dictionary
(Luhd) Place name of unknown meaning. Town later called Lydda eleven miles southeast of Joppa. Shemed or perhaps Elpaal of tribe of Benjamin is credited with building it (1 Chronicles 8:12 ). Returning exiles settled there about 537 B.C. (Ezra 2:33; Nehemiah 7:37; Nehemiah 11:35 ) at what appears as the westernmost postexilic settlement though probably outside the governing authority of Sanballat of Samaria and of Judah (Nehemiah 6:2 ). See Lydda .
