Magor-Missabib

Holman Bible Dictionary

(may' gahr-mihss ssay' bihb) Name meaning “terror on every side” which Jeremiah gave to Pashur the priest after the latter had the prophet beaten and put in stocks (Jeremiah 20:3 ). The earliest Greek translation lacks the words “on every side,” prompting some interpreters to conclude the words were added in imitation of the full phrase at Jeremiah 6:25; Jeremiah 20:10 .
