Manoah

Holman Bible Dictionary

(muh noh' uh) Personal name meaning “rest.” A member of the tribe of Dan and the father of Samson (Judges 13:1 ). Manoah petitioned God for a son when his wife could not produce an heir. God promised a son on the condition that he be reared a Nazirite. Manaoh hosted the man of God who brought the news at a meal, but was told to offer the food as a burnt offering. The man ascended in the smoke of the fire, revealing his identity as God's angel. Manaoh is buried between Zorah and Eshtaol.
