Middle Gate

Holman Bible Dictionary

A city gate of Jerusalem (Jeremiah 39:3 ). Archeologists have found evidence of battle (arrowheads, charred wood) located outside the remains of a gate in the middle of the north wall of the preexilic city. It seems probable that the Babylonians attacked the city from the north and that these are, in fact, the remains of the Middle Gate. The gate is possibly identical to the Fish Gate (2 hron. Jeremiah 33:14; Nehemiah 3:3; Zephaniah 1:10 ).
