Mule
Holman Bible Dictionary
A hybrid animal produced by the union of a male ass and a mare. David chose a mule to symbolize royalty for Solomon's coronation (1 Kings 1:33 ), possibly because the Israelites did not have horses. However, this is not the donkey used in Zechariah 9:9 and Matthew 21:5 for Jesus' entry to Jerusalem. See Animals .
