Holman Bible Dictionary
KJV term for a digging tool (Deuteronomy 23:13 ). Modern translations render the term as something to dig with (NIV), spade (NAS), stick (RSV, TEV), or trowel (NRSV, REB). The Israelites were required to respect God's presence in their camp by burying their excrement.
