Paint
Holman Bible Dictionary
A mixture of pigment and liquid used to apply a closely adhering, colorful coat to a surface. Most scriptural references are to painting the eyes. See Cosmetics . The sole exception is Jeremiah 22:14 which refers to Jehoiakim's plans to paint his palace vermilion. The prohibition of making images ( Exodus 20:4 ) perhaps curtailed development of painting in Israel. Archaeologists have uncovered numerous tomb and palace paintings in both Egypt and Mesopotamia.
