Potter's Field

Holman Bible Dictionary

Tract of land in the Hinnom Valley outside Jerusalem used as a cemetery for pilgrims to the Holy City since the interbiblical era. The field was bought with the money paid for betraying Jesus (Acts 1:18 ). Matthew 27:3-10 records that the priests bought the field with the money Judas returned. Their reasoning was that the money had been used to bring about bloodshed and could not be returned to the Temple treasury.
